Obituary

Lt. Col. James F. Agan USAF (Ret.) of Colchester, VT Passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly on May 17th 2021.
He was born March 29, 1934 in Hanover NH to William T. and Lucille A. (Labbie) Agan. He grew up in White River Jct. and graduated from Hartford High School in 1952 and the University of Vermont in the class of 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He received his Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in July of 1967 from Norwich University. Jim worked for the State of Vermont as a Professional Engineer for 20 years and for the United States Postal Service until he retired in 1998.
Jim entered the Army on May 26, 1953 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After three years serving overseas in the Army, he separated and in 1958 felt the call to serve again and joined the Vermont Air National Guard and commissioned in October of that year. He went to Navigator Training and later flew in the back seat of the T-33, F-89 and EB-57 as an Electronic Warfare Officer. He served thirty years with the Green Mountain Boys and retired as a Lt.Col.
He was an active member the VT State Guard, and lifetime member of both the VFW Post 6689 and the American Legion Post 91. He was also active in the VFW color guard and was the Grand Marshal for the Memorial Day parade in Essex in 2012. He was a true patriot, loved his time in the military and VTANG and passed this legacy onto his children and grandchildren, some of whom have also chosen to serve in the Armed Forces.
On June 30, 1962 he married the love of his life, Shirley A. (Lashway) Agan and settled in Colchester, VT where they raised three sons, and a daughter; Craig, Joseph, Timothy, and Kelley.
Jim Loved camping with his family, fishing and hunting with his sons and his time hanging out with other Veterans at the VFW and American Legion, where he always bought a new member a beer. Jim and Shirley loved to travel, and it seemed that wherever they went, someone knew him or had heard of him, or he would make new friends.
He was predeceased by his Parents, wife Shirley, brothers William and John, son Craig, and granddaughter Jordon.
