Obituary for Robert Genest III

Robert E. Genest III (Robbie) Essex Junction, VT passed away peacefully on Monday May 9th after a brief illness.

He was born on November 11, 1965 in Burlington to Robert E. Genest Jr of Colchester and Gail Smith of Milton, both of whom have predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his 2 sisters Monique and Sarah Genest.

Rob grew up in the bay in Colchester and this is also where he later went on to raise his family.

Rob was a long-standing member of the Local 693 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union where he worked with many area shops before retiring in 2020 due to his illness.

Rob enjoyed spending time at deer camp, weekend camping (glamping), and sitting around the fire pit. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially his grandson Duke, who was the light of his life. Duke would often send his toys to “Jiddo’s work shop” to be fixed when they were broken.

He was known as the “bird whisperer” who could identify just about any bird who came to his feeder and for many years as a child and adult he was a great pool boy. He took pride in always having the cleanest pool! He had a love for cooking and making his own recipes in which many he passed down to his children.

Rob was an avid NASCAR, NFL, and MLB fan. His favorite teams were the New York Giants and the Yankees.

Rob is survived by his companion Erin Mecca of Essex Junction, children Taylor Genest (Kyle Sabourin) and grandson Duke Miller of Swanton, Tatum and her fiancé Jared Stocker of Fairfax, and Robert E Genest IV (Bobby) of Colchester. His sister Kim Connelly and husband Rob of Jericho. Step Mother Marion Genest of Colchester, step father John Smith of Milton. His nephew Cody (Jennifer Jones), and nieces Katherine Genest, Adelena Genest, Adeline Connelly , great nieces Vivian and Tyra Jones and Sarah Grace Bombard. As well as many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and extended family and friends.

Visiting hours will be from 4-7pm on May 17th at Lavigne’s Funeral Home on Main St, Winooki, Vt. A mass of Christian burial will be Holy Cross Church on May 18th at 11 am with burial to follow at resurrection park in South Burlington, Vermont.

The family would also like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the nursing staff on McLure 5 at UVMMC for the excellent and compassionate care they gave Robbie and the family over the past few months. They truly made this much easier for all of us and we cannot thank them enough. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to their floor.
