Obituary for Richard Young

Richard A. Young left us on November 11, 2021 to join his loving wife Cecile T. Young. Richard was born on May 22, 1932 in Stowe, Vermont, he was one of 12 children born to Harold Francis Sr. & Bessie Young. The family moved to Richmond in 1939 where he attended Richmond High School before joining the military in 1950 serving as a radio operator in Germany. After serving our country he started working at Collins Dairy and Adrian Thibault Construction Company. He then went to work for HP Hoods before starting his independent distributorship peddle milk and dairy products door to door. Dick finished his career in 1933 at Burlington Housing Authority.

Dick was very active in the community being one of the original founders of the Burlington Amateur Hockey Association, spearheading all fundraising effort. For 49 years he proudly served as the timekeeper for UVM Hockey. Dick was often seen at UVM Men and Women’s Basketball games and was a strong supporter of both high school boys and girl’s basketball and hockey programs. As a lifetime member of the Burlington Elks Lodge he often volunteered for Silver Towers, ran the annual clam bake and worked their booth at the Champlain Valley Fair Grounds. In the summer if you were looking for him you would often find him at the Williston Country Club and Kwiniaska Golf Club.

In 1952 he met the love of his life Cecile Thibault at Harts Barn in Williston, VT. They were united in marriage on June 11, 1955 where they started their life on Winooski Avenue, settling in on Spruce Court before moving to their dream home at 734 North Avenue in 1977.
Richard is survived by his 7 children: daughters Kathi, and Lisa (Richard) Gravel, 5 sons Richard (Judy), Bernard (Karyl), Thomas (Jenn), Mark (Sandie) and Alan (Simone), along with his 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren whom he adored. He leaves his sister Pat Thibodeau, brothers Harold Jr., Edward (Opal), Larry (Charlene) and Raymond (Jean),brother in law Andre (Gisele) Thibault and sister in law Jeanette Thibault. We would be remiss without mentioning his very special friends Edward, Gerald and Robert Desautels. Many nieces, nephews, buddies at the Williston Country Club and numerous friends all too many to list individually.

He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Bessie Young, brothers Fred (Al) and Robert, sisters Dorothy (Roger) Barnaby, Ruth (Francis) Lesage, Beverly Tanner, Mickey Young, Ramona, in laws Herve and Robella (Ruel) Thibault, Gerard (Katherine) Thibault, Charles (Margaret), Ulysses, Adrian (Rosanne), Real, Claude and Fleurette Romprey.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 20, 2021 at 9:30AM at St, Marks Catholic Church on North Avenue in Burlington, interment immediately following at St. Francis Cemetery.
