Richard J. " Mickey " McMahon 86, passed away on December 25, 2020 due to the COVID-19 virus. He was born on January 5, 1934 in St. Albans Town, Vt to Lester McMahon and Alice (Cameron ) McMahon. He would then meet the love of his life and would marry Ruth Desso on May 26,1956, a marriage that would last 64 years, that is truly amazing. Soon after they were married, he would be drafted by the US Army in 1957 where he was stationed at Fort Dix, NJ. where he would do his basic training. After his completion from basic training, he would receive a General Discharge from the US Army where he would return home to his bride to which they would settle down and have a family. He was employed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, Vt where he would work for 50 years until his retirement in 2008. " Mickey " known by his friends and co-workers of the Diocese were so pleased to have them as their custodian as he always took care of them with office cleaning, setting up events, interior and exterior painting and basically keeping the building in tip top shape, his dedication showed in the work he did there. He said he always admired the " friendly smiles and gifts "they have given him over the years. He said they would tell him, thank you Mickey for always taking great care of us. His commitment and loyalty to his family and his workplace was very important to him. He always looked forward to getting out to family barbeques where he enjoyed catching up with everyone and loved the home cooked meals. He so enjoyed going out to his favorite eating spot " Denny's "with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed going camping in Lake George and in earlier family camping days at the Groton State Park. He especially enjoyed going and spending some quality time in Maine (Old Orchard Beach) and NH (Hampton Beach) just loved being near the ocean.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, a daughter (unborn baby girl), his grandson Derek Brunelle, his nephew Robert McMahon, his two sisters Lilian Isabelle, Marilyn Doaner, his seven brothers, Lester McMahon, Charles McMahon, Raymond McMahon, Roger McMahon, Fred McMahon and twin boys. He is survived by his wife Ruth of Winooski; children Valarie " Goldie " and her husband Steve Brunelle of Colchester; Robert and his wife " Becky " McMahon of Essex Jct; Michael " McEd " and his wife Debbie Stough McMahon of Winooski; Cindy McMahon and her companion Ronald Lamore of Winooski; David McMahon of St. Albans, Richard McMahon Jr. ( Essex Jct. ) and his companion Amy Lafrancis of Rutland; Karl McMahon of Winooski; and Darren McMahon of Winooski; 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one sister, Catherine " Kitty " Desorcie of St. Albans ; one brother, Robert McMahon of Newport, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on April 30, 2021 from 4-7pm at the LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 1, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Saint Michael's College Chapel in Colchester. Burial service immediately following at the St. Stephen's Cemetery in Winooski.
