Obituary for Pauline Root

Pauline Mary Root, age 94, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2022, at Delma Gardens of Gwinnett Skilled Nursing Facility in Lawrenceville, GA.

Pauline was born in St. Albans, VT August 15, 1927 to Bertha (LaPierre) Cyr and Leander (Lee) Cyr. She was a BHS graduate of 1945. After graduation she worked in the office at General Ice Cream Corporation and later at McAuliffe’s Wholesale Company.

On August 7, 1948, she married Clermont Root, Jr in the Church of Immaculate Conception in Burlington,VT. Pauline and Clermont (Clem) had two daughters, Debra Jean Root and Pamela Anne Root. The family resided for many years in Lakewood Estates on North Avenue in Burlington. Pauline and her former husband, Clem, owned and operated a Home Remodeling Business for 25 years.

Pauline was an active member of St Mark’s Catholic Church in Burlington. She enjoyed attending the St. Mark’s Lawn Party each year and also enjoyed duckpin bowling at the church.

In search of warmer weather, they retired to Spring Hill, FL in October of 1985.

Pauline was very skilled at crocheting and knitting. She loved creating beautiful doilies, afghans and tablecloths. She also enjoyed baking, especially deserts, and was famous for her homemade donuts and Toll House cookies. Pauline had the gift of bringing lost-cause plants back to life and found great pleasure in making them thrive.

Pauline was predeceased by her daughter, Debra (Debbi), her brothers, John (Jackie) Cyr, Wayne Cyr, and her sister, Geraldine (Cyr) Fleury, and Geraldine’s husband, Albert J Fleury as well as sisters-in-law, Constance (Connie) Riley, Hedi Cyr and Margaret (Louise) Cyr, a niece, Lucy Cyr, a nephew, Larry Fleury and Larry’s wife, Patricia (Pat) Fleury, and Pauline’s former husband, Clermont Root, Jr.

Pauline is survived by her daughter, Pamela Root of Duluth, GA, a brother, Norman Cyr of Milton, VT, nieces, Mary Greenough of Spring Hill, FL and Karen Cyr, Vicki Cyr-Miller and Lisa (Cyr) Shangraw of Milton, VT, Diane (Riley) Pouliot of Manchester, VT, Nancy (Cyr) Knight of York, ME; nephews, Lee Compagna of Efland, NC, Norman Cyr II of St Albans, VT, Jean-Paul Cyr and Matthew Cyr of Milton, VT and James Cyr of Atoka, TN, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life and a Mass led by Father “Skip” Baltz will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 1pm to 3pm at LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski, VT, followed by burial at New Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 76 Plattsburgh Ave, Burlington, VT.
