Obituary for Pauline Mae Baker (Hebert)

Pauline H. Baker, 81, lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Pauline was born in Burlington, Vermont on June 14, 1939, daughter of Raymond A. Hebert and Mae E. (Malloy) Hebert. Pauline raised her four children in her childhood home on Pitkin Street, where she has also spent the last 81 years. She was not only known as the matriarch of her family, but also the matriarch of the neighborhood. Pauline will be remembered for her kind-hearted spirit, strong intellect, tireless strength and always willing to lend a hand.
Pauline was married at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington, on September 1, 1962, to her soul-mate Donald E. Baker, who predeceased her on October 6, 2020. Pauline was employed at New England Telephone Company from 1958 to the early 1990’s, when she retired. She always had a passion for volunteering. She was an enthusiastic civic volunteer for the UVM Shakespeare Festival, The Telephone Pioneers of America, Green Mountain Clowns, The Lane Series, The Mozart Festival and was a proud 25-year Flynn Spirit service pin holder. After attending "Clown College" in the 1990's she became popularly known as "Raggedy Ann" and would easily be found participating in statewide community events generally hosted by the Telephone Pioneers of America with her soulmate, Donald, alongside her. Pauline loved summers in Vermont and always looked forward to organizing day trips to Sandbar State Park with her family, her brother Raymond, and extended family and friends.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Donald on October 6, 2020. She is survived by her children, Dr. Laurie A. Baker-Malungu, husband, Dr. Henry G.B. Malungu of Macao, China, Linda L. Buker, husband, Larry A. Buker of Essex. Jeffrey S. Baker of Burlington, VT, Michelle M. Guertin and fiancé, David M. Fernandez, of Port Orange, FL; grandchildren, Phillip E. Ploof and girlfriend, Ariel Munson, of Grand Isle, VT, Tazira M. Malungu of Edmond, OK, Ryan J. Ploof of Essex Junction, VT, Martharoot N. Malungu of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Musbanani K. Malungu of Macao, China, Kacey L. Guertin and PFC Hunter D. Guertin, both of Port Orange, FL; great-grandchild Paxton E. Ploof: Brother and lifelong companion and best friend, Raymond L. Hebert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 10 a.m., in the Cathedral of St. Joseph's in Burlington. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Burlington. Arrangements are under the care of LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski.
