Obituary for Patricia A Schiller (Mirra)

On June 20th, 2022, Patricia Schiller, loving wife and mother of two children, sister, cousin, aunt, neighbor, friend and inspiration to many, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Pat was born to Anthony and Angeline Mirra in Syracuse, NY on May 12, 1950. She attended Liverpool High School and Castleton State College before returning later in her career for a Master of Special Education at the University of Vermont.

In 1974 Pat married Richard Schiller and they started a loving family in Vermont. Pat was a lifelong educator, inspiring young students at Yandon-Dillon Educational Center in Mineville, NY, Castleton State College, Burlington Technical Center, Winooski High School, Community College of Vermont, and for 25 years at Colchester High School, where she was loved by countless students and colleagues over the years.

Pat was a bright, sociable and fun-loving person who had a warm smile and limitless energy. She was entirely selfless, constantly looking for ways to help others, and made fast friends with almost anyone she had the pleasure of meeting.

Pat led a healthy lifestyle, practiced yoga and meditation, and enjoyed running outdoors several times a week (even in the middle of the Vermont winter). She ran multiple races across the country, and at the age of 60 ran the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco. She had a very strong bond with her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Pat is survived by her husband Richard, two sons Bryan and Michael, daughter-in-law Liz, grandsons Kaiden and Mason, sister Donna Sherman, brother Larry Mirra, and many close cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Visiting hours will be held at LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski on Sunday, June 26th from 3pm-7pm, and a memorial service will be held at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Winooski on Monday, June 27th at 11:30am.
