Obituary for Norbert Camerlengo

It is with great reverence and gratitude that we announce the passing of one so dear to us. Norbert (Bert) Camerlengo made his departure from this world on December 16, 2021 at the McClure Miller Respite House surrounded by his loving family.

Bert was born on May 26, 1947 in North Bergen, New Jersey to Louis and Rita Camerlengo. He was the youngest in the family, earning him the endearment "Babe."

Norbert graduated from Saint Michael's College in 1969 with a degree in Biology, pursuing his fascination with science. During his time at Saint Mike's he met many of his life-long friends, fell in love with Vermont, but most importantly met the love of his life Susan (Mongeon).

Bert and Sue spent over a decade in New Jersey. There they created a home and had their four children while he worked as a Lab Researcher. Upon returning to Vermont, Bert began his career at the Post Office as he and Sue cultivated their family. He was a passionate supporter of his children; coaching soccer, basketball and Stunt Nite, attending gymnastics meets, and creating ridiculous Halloween costumes.

Norbert found joy in poetry, sharing stories, spending time with his dogs, kayaking on Lake Champlain, and anything lemon flavored. Having a great love for nature, he took pride in his flourishing gardens and the solace he found in them. Above all, Bert was most proud of family; the one he came from, the one he married into, and the one he nurtured with Sue. As he often said, "What love began will never end."

Norbert. Dad. Dzia Dzia. Thank you for being our mentor, confidante, provider, and the best life teacher we've ever had. We will miss you and look forward to seeing you again someday From the bottom of our hearts, Kochamy Cie

Norbert has been reunited with those that left before him: his parents Louis and Rita (nee Birch); his siblings Paul, Justin, and Barbara Suter; beloved in-laws Sylvester and Reine Mongeon; brother-in-law Willard Knight Jr; and nephews Matty Camerlengo, Timothy Suter, and Billy Knight III.

Bert was devoted to those he left behind: his loving wife Sue; his four children and their partners; Jared and Mary, Ryan and Melissa, Corey and Christopher, Devin and Daniel; and his grandchildren; Riley, Walter and George. He was a loving brother-in-law to; Pepi Camerlengo, Al Suter, Jean Camerlengo, Doreen and James Couture, Elaine and Jim Rublee, Carol and Richard LaPointe, and Sharon and Phillip Beaudin. Bert was a life-long friend to Bill Pubylski. He had many nieces, nephews, and friends that he held close to his heart.

A Viewing will be held on Monday, December 20 from 4-7PM at LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, Winooski, VT.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 21 at 11AM at Chapel of Saint Michael Archangel in Colchester, VT. Burial to follow at Resurrection Park.
