Obituary for Mary Jane LaRiviere

Mary Jane C. LaRiviere, 81, of Essex Junction, VT went to be with our Lord and Savior on April 19, 2021. Mary Jane was born on April 10, 1940 in Winooski, VT to the late Arthur and Anna (Cinq-Mars) Brouillard. Mary Jane attended Cathedral High until 1959 when she moved to Everett, MA where she worked as a waitress at Gilcrest Department Store.
She married Richard J. Bombard in December of 1959, and together they began a family. They moved back to Vermont in 1965. Mary Jane went to hairdressing school and worked as a hair stylist for a period of time, and as a waitress at the Redwood Inn, Howard Johnsons, and Henry’s Diner. Mary Jane and Richard divorced in 1971 and a couple of years later she met Aldege (Joe) LaRiviere. They married in 1973 and continued their family.
In 1979, Mary Jane was employed by Champlain Cable and worked there for 10 years before leaving to care for her ailing husband Joe. Following his death in 1991, she worked cleaning offices in the Burlington area.
Mary Jane’s best years were spent raising her children, watching soaps and classic TV, riding her bike, gardening, doing puzzles, and of course, spoiling her beloved cats. Other than her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, nothing gave her greater pleasure than her cats.
Mary Jane is survived by her seven children: Marc (Yolanda) Brouillard of California, Douglas Bombard of Colchester, Debra (Joseph) Linnane of Maryland, Bonnie Putnam of Essex Center, Michael Bombard of Swanton, Vicki Benoit of Colchester, Sharyl LaRiviere (John Dryer) of Barre Vt. Eleven grandchildren: Venesa, Joshua, Katelin, Stephanie, Todd, Justin, Bradley, Elizabeth, Brittany, Jeremy, and Briana, and four great-grandchildren: Aniah, Kiara (Kiki), Addalyn (Addy), and Carlisle, and last but not least, her beloved cat Memow.
Mary Jane is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Anna Brouillard, sisters Anna Brouillard, Loretta Fobare, and Theresa Santerre, brother Charles Santerre and his wife Eleanor, special friend Gerald Allen, her husband Aldege LaRiviere, and their precious daughter Amy Jo.
A Catholic mass will take place on Friday, April 23rd at 1pm, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 3 St. Peter’s St, Winooski, VT, 05404. There will be no calling hours. A private burial will follow at Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington for family members.
