Obituary for Marlene Irwin (Leith)

A. Marlene Irwin of South Burlington, born October 8, 1938, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022, at the McClure Miller Respite House, at the age of 83.

She was born in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada to Norman and Elaine Leith. Their family moved to New York State when she was 16 years old.

She graduated from East Rochester High School and SUNY Geneseo College.

Marlene married Royce William Irwin Jr. on July 8, 1961. Together they raised 4 daughters.

Her greatest joys in life were her sister Karen, her family and friends, writing poetry, summer camping, square dancing, her faith in Christian Science, and holiday gatherings.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister in law and brother in law Mamie and Jerry Lawrence, brother in law John Meuser, and grandson Ryan Mills.

Marlene leaves behind, her husband Royce of 60 years, 4 daughters: Shelby (Jamie) Mills; Sonja (Steve) Kelsey; Dawn ( Dan) Groleau; Dianne (Dan) Farnham.

7 grandchildren: Collin Mills, Trevor and Kipp Kelsey, Troy and Emily Groleau, Makayla and Calvin Farnham.

Her dear sister Karen Meuser and Don Davidson, also many wonderful nieces and nephews and dear and close friends.

A service will be held at Lavigne Funeral home 132 Main Street, Winooski VT, 05404 , on Saturday June 25th at 10:00am, followed by a visiting hour till noon.



Our family would like to give a special thank you to all who helped us with Marlene’s care. Diane Warnick, Joyce Phelps, The Miller 5 Oncology team at UVM Medical Center, and the outstanding care at the McClure Miller Respite House, nurses, staff and volunteers. Also, thank you to all those who sent cards, flowers, pictures, gifts, and visits to Marlene, that brightened her days.
