Obituary for Lawrence Albert "Larry" Fortier

Larry Fortier, 70 of 325 Lime Kiln Rd, South Burlington, died January 15, 2021, at his home due to a longtime heart condition. Born Plattsburgh NY on February 28, son of Richard R. Fortier Sir and Alice LaBarge Fortier. Graduate Winooski High School class of 1969. Completed Lay Ministry Program given by the Diocese of Burlington in 2004. He was employed by Sodexo Food Service for 25 yrs. and worked in the Waterman café. Parishioner of St Stephen's Parish for 60 yrs., and served several years as an alter server and Eucharistic minister. Member of the Knights of Columbus council 279 and assembly 1148, and served as a past Grand Knight. He was one of the remaining original members of the vocations committee members who helped institute the vocations program for the Diocese of Burlington which is now in their 40th year to give seminarians scholarships to help with their studies. Also to support them by visiting them at the seminaries and have different social funds for the support of the seminarians.

He leaves two Brothers Richard R. Jr and wife Cheryl Gould Fortier, of Essex Jct. and Steven of Hinesburg, and Sisters Bonnie who lived 8 days and passed in 1952 and Connie of South Burlington. Nieces Kerry Sherman of Burlington, Stacey Fortier of South Carolina, Kristy Coyne of South Carolina and husband Thomas, Nephews Ian Sherman, of Milton VT, Roland Butzke and wife Kristen of MA, Eric Butzke and Family of MA, John OBorsky and wife Tamara and Family of MA, Hon Ly and wife Ky and Family of Winooski Great nephews and nieces, and Great great nephews. Sister in law Rose Griffin D'Vanzo of South Carolina. Aunts Irma Peacock and husband Robert of Plattsburgh, Geraldine Maher of Austin Texas, and several cousins, and many loving friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately for the family at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the care of LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
