Obituary for Jeannine Picher

Jeannine Michaud Picher of Winooski died on Sunday at The Residence at Shelburne Bay in Shelburne, VT, at the age of 91.

She was born in Cabano, Quebec, on March 2, 1930, the daughter of Wilfred and Cecile (Michaud) Michaud, who both predeceased her. A graduate of Calais Memorial High School in Calais, ME, and St. Stephen Business College in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, she worked in administrative positions in Washington, DC, first at the Veterans Administration then at the Department of the Air Force in the Pentagon. She later was employed at Ethan Allen Air Force Base in Colchester.

On September 6, 1954, she married Robert L. Picher of Winooski. They resided there for the next 67 years, raising their family in the process. She was an exceptionally devoted wife, a loving mother to her four children whom she cherished deeply, a doting Mémère to her five grandchildren and a wonderful friend to all who knew her.

Mrs. Picher was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Winooski. She was very active with the Winooski Historical Society and the Vermont French-Canadian Genealogical Society, and was a member of the Council St. Laurent of Union St-Jean-Baptiste Society and the Women's Home Demonstration Club for many years.

Mrs. Picher is survived by her husband Robert, her son Robert, Jr., and his wife Mary of Venice, FL, her son David and his wife Suzanne of Wellesley, MA, and her son Thomas and his wife Julie of Wellesley. She is also survived by her granddaughter Nicole Cummings (William) of New Rochelle, NY, grandchildren Christopher, Madeleine and Luke Picher of Wellesley, and grandson Thomas Picher Jr., of Wellesley, as well as great-grandchildren Catherine, Alexandra and William of New Rochelle. Also surviving are two sisters, Theresa Kelsey of South Burlington, and Pauline Dumas of Newport, RI. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Louise Davis in 1988, her brother Guy Michaud in 1982, her sister Paulette Carroll in 2006, as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at The Residence at Shelburne Bay and Burlington Health and Rehab. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Francis Xavier Parish in Winooski.

A Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winooski at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 29, 2021. Funeral services will be coordinated by LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski.
