Obituary for Gladys Marie Landry

Gladys Marie (Maynard) Landry, 89, of Grand Isle, VT, passed away on June 29, 2021 after a lengthy illness. She was born to parents Joseph Maynard and Rose DuPont Maynard, on August 31, 1931 in Burlington, VT.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1949.

Gladys worked as a processor chip maker at IBM, The University of Vermont, and in the Colchester school system.

She enjoyed old movies, music, dancing, baking, fishing with her husband, going to camp with family in the summer, and babysitting her grandchildren.

Most of all, she loved her family. Before ill health curtailed her activities she liked nothing better than to visit, laugh and reminisce with family and friends. Since her passing the family has received many "gifts" of stories, memories, tales of kindnesses she had shown to others and photos, some dating back to 1949. She was much loved and will be missed by many.

Gladys met Raymond G. Landry in 1950 at Bayside Pavilion in Malletts Bay. They were married at St. Stephen's Church in October, 1951 in Winooski VT. Raymond passed just two days before their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they raised 3 children: Gail M. Cappuccilli, Raymond A. Landry, and Alan J. Landry. They spent the majority of their married life in Colchester and Grand Isle Vermont. She resided for nearly two years at the home of her son Alan and his wife Cheryl where she received loving care for which her family is extremely grateful.

Gladys is survived by her daughter Gail and her spouse Dennis Cappuccilli, her son Alan Landry and his spouse Cheryl, her daughter in law Nancy, 4 grandchildren: James Daudelin (Hilary), Dennis J. Cappuccilli (Jess Polanshek), Jennifer LaCross (Scott), and Niki Hayes, 7 great-grandchildren: Tyler and Courtney Daudelin, Emma and Lily LaCross, Dylan and Lexus Hayes-Francis, Michele Degree (Jamie), 2 sister in laws: Eva Willette and Carleen Landry, and a brother-in-law Norman Landry, several nieces and nephews, and many good friends including Sharyn Layfield who provided not only friendship but also transportation, visitation, caregiving, and moral and physical support, not only to Gladys but to her family as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 2001, her son Raymond in 2018, her parents, and all 8 of her siblings and their spouses, several nieces and nephews and a special friend Mary Ann Brill.

The family entrusted Lavigne's Funeral Home in Winooski VT with the arrangements. A private immediate family only funeral service was held on Friday, July 9, 2021 with burial following at St. Francis Cemetery in Winooski VT. Wake and burial committal prayers were offered by Father William Beaudin. The ashes of her son Raymond were blessed and interred along with Gladys as was her wish. She, her beloved husband and son now reside together. Pallbearers were Dennis J. Cappuccilli, James Daudelin, Dylan Hayes-Francis, Josh Francis, Scott LaCross, and Alan Landry.

A family gathering and meal followed the funeral.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in memory of Gladys or Raymond Landry be made to the American Heart Association and/or the American Diabetes Association.
