WINOOSKI, VT. Clemence M Bergeron, a devoted wife, an exceptional mother, an
adoring grandmother, great-grandmother, and thoughtful friend.
Clemence Marie (Gagnon) Bergeron died at home on September 1, 2020 surrounded by
her loving family.
She was born in St Justin, province of Quebec on December 19, 1921. The daughter of
the late Arthur and Marie Louise Gagnon, Clemence was surrounded by many
opportunities for enrichment. She came to the United States after marrying the love of her
life, Raymond Bergeron on July 5, 1947 who predeceased her on October 24, 1980. She
is also predeceased by her child Aline Marie who died as a baby on November 1, 1951,
her son Paul on June 9, 2014, her grandson, David Gaworecki on May 16, 2018 and great
grandson, Grady Howrigan on July 28, 2017. She experienced a rich cultural French-
Canadian heritage and became a strong promoter of Catholic education. After finishing
her studies at the regional school in St Justin, she demonstrated at a very early age, a
wide range of talents and an unquenchable pursuit of perfection in all that she undertook.
For more than 30 years, Clemence was an expert seamstress who sewed for local bridal
shops and for untold numbers of people in the area. Clients called upon her when they
required especially challenging and delicate sewing projects. She was an excellent
homemaker, caring well for her 9 children. She also enjoyed embroidery, knitting, and
weaving as well as her passion for sewing. She was an avid member of La Société des
Deux Mondes, a lifetime member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Ladies of St Anne,
and worked many years for her parish, St Francis Xavier in Winooski, making liturgical
robes and caring for altar linens.
Clemence valued her faith very highly and remained faithful in her devotions to Our
Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Anthony, and St. Jude. Her daily practice of prayer included
multiple rosaries demonstrating her generous commitment to her family and those she
loved.
Clemence was a remarkable woman, always congenial and sharp witted. She thoroughly
enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and neighbors on her porch and over the phone with
a friendly and welcoming attitude and vibrant conversation. She thrived on social
interaction and truly treasured each person she encountered.
Clemence leaves a beautiful legacy through her loving family. Diane and John

Clemence is survived by her dear relatives from Quebec: her sister, Jeannette Clement of
Quebec City and her brother Clement Gagnon and his wife Marie-Jeanne of St. Leon, her
two sisters-in-law: Marie Claire Gagnon of Louiseville and Pauline Gagnon of Montreal.
Clemence was predeceased by 7 brothers: Paul, Maurice, Pierre, Germain, Jacques,
Claude, Joseph Yvon and by 4 sisters: Lucienne Gagnon, Therese Racine, Anne Rose
Gagnon, Noella Francoeur. In the local area, she is survived by brother-in-law, Conrad
Bergeron of Williston, VT and sister-in-law, Pauline Boulerice of St. Albans, VT.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor her memory, make
contributions to St Francis Xavier Church or School, 3 St Peter Street, Winooski, VT
05404.
Visiting hours will be held at LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St, Winooski, VT on
Monday, September 7 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
on Tuesday, September 8 at 1:00 pm at St Francis Xavier Church in Winooski with
interment to follow in the St Francis Xavier Cemetery. Due to restrictions related to
COVID-19, seating is limited to 100 participants for the funeral and sign up is required.

Louise Gagnon, Clémence était entourée de nombreuses occasions d'enrichissement. Elle
est arrivée aux États-Unis après avoir épousé l'amour de sa vie, Raymond Bergeron, le 5
juillet 1947. Il est décédé le 24 octobre 1980. Elle est également prédécédée par son
enfant Aline Marie décédée (un bébé) le 1er novembre 1951, son fils Paul le 9 juin 2014,
son petit-fils, David Gaworecki le 16 mai 2018 et son arrière petit-fils, Grady Howrigan
le 28 juillet 2017. Elle a connu un riche héritage culturel canadien-français et est devenue
une ardente promotrice de l'éducation catholique. Après avoir terminé ses études à l'école
régionale de St Justin, elle a démontré très jeune un large éventail de talents et une
recherche inlassable de la perfection dans tout ce qu'elle entreprenait.
Pendant plus de 30 ans, Clemence était une couturière experte qui a cousu pour les
magasins de mariage locaux et pour un nombre incalculable de personnes dans la région.
Les clients ont fait appel à elle lorsqu'ils avaient besoin de projets de couture
particulièrement difficiles et délicats. Elle était une excellente femme au foyer, s'occupant
bien de ses 9 enfants. Elle aimait également la broderie, le tricot et le tissage ainsi que sa
passion pour la couture. Elle était un membre passionné de la Société des Deux Mondes,
membre à vie des Filles d'Isabelle et des Dames de Sainte-Anne, et a travaillé de
nombreuses années pour sa paroisse, St Francis Xavier à Winooski, en confectionnant des
vêtements liturgiques et en prenant soin du linge d'autel.
Clémence tenait beaucoup à sa foi et restait fidèle dans ses dévotions à Notre-Dame du
Perpétuel Secours, à Saint Antoine et à Saint Jude. Sa pratique quotidienne de la prière
comprenait de plusieurs chapelets montrant son engagement généreux envers sa famille
et ceux qu'elle aimait.
Clémence était une femme remarquable, toujours sympathique et à l'esprit vif. Elle a
vraiment aimé accueillir sa famille, ses amis et ses voisins sur sa gallérie et au téléphone
avec une attitude amicale et accueillante et une conversation animée. Elle vibrait aux
interactions sociales et elle a vraiment chéri chaque personne qu'elle rencontrait.
